GOLD MEDAL presented to G. (George) LACY HILLIER. This medal was a special award for his breaking the THREE, FOUR & FIVE MILE RECORDS (to that date) at the CRYSTAL PALACE on Sept. 25, 1884. He did the 3 MILES in 8 mins. 32 secs.; 4 MILES in 11 mins. 24 secs.; & 5 MILES in 14 mins. 18 secs. Presented by the STANLEY CYCLE CLUB & SOUTH LONDON HARRIERS. Hillier was one of the most important celebrities of racing in the 1880's & 90's. He co-wrote with the Seventh Earl of Albemarle the series of The Badminton Library titled CYCLING. In 1892 Hillier invited A. A. ZIMMERMAN to join his LONDON COUNTY CYCLING & ATHLETIC CLUB (England). Shields Collection
