Writen by Luther H. Porter, ex-representative New Jersey Division League of American Wheelmen, and author of `The Advantages of Cycling`, `Wheels and Wheeling`, and others. Published by Wheelman Company located at 12 Pearl St which happens to be the same address where the L.A.W. Bulletin & Good Roads was published. 230 pages including some attractive line drawings showing the evolution of the bicycle starting from 1818 through the Safety of 1890. The dimensions are 4 7/8 x 7 1/4 inches, in very good condition except for the outside cover which is in poor condition. Included are some very attractive advertisements from the major bike manufacturers of the period.

The very last page of the book is a tribute to the Pope Mfg Co which was writen in 1890 or early 1891.

1818 Pedestrian Curricle patented in England by Johnson shown on page-24. This is an improved form of the 1816 Draisine which was patented in France by Baron von Drais.

The 1821 Hobby Horse produced by Gompertz shown on page-25. It was similar to the 1821 version but had the addition of a "front wheel drive gear" which was activated by the use of a handle over the front wheel.

1845 Rear Driver, a wooden bicycle invented by Mr. Dalzell, a Scotchman. It had two different size wheels; 40" rear and 30" front. The iron-work portion of this bicycle was constructed by John Leslie, a blacksmith.

The 1866 Lallement Velocipede built in America by Lallement (a Frenchman) and Carrol (an American). It had balanced pedals attached to fixed cranks on the front wheel. This was one of the very first bicycles with cranks and pedals and served as the plateau for the continued development and evolution of today's models.
