| | The bookmark is cast with a lot of detail in the mold; you can clearly see the spokes, cranks, pedals and handlebar grips. It is shown here on the introduction page of the book entitled `The Fastest Bicycle Rider in the World`, an autobiography of Marshall W. `Major` Taylor (from this collection). this particular copy, copyrighted in 1928, was given to Roland Geist by Hans Ohrt on July 30, 1951 and is signed by Hans with the message `a pleasure to have you visit`. A little history; Hans Ohrt Lightweight Bicycles, was a well known bicycle store located at 9544 Santa Monica Blvd., Beverly Hills, CA. Han`s niece, Connie Herst and her husband, Len, took over the business and were good customers of WCCSC; Howie was the salesman calling on this store. Charlie Harding was the mechanic for many years until he purchased Ed Lynch`s Westwood Cyclery, the Los Angeles store famous for selling Follis racing bicycles and all of teh `hard to find` racing parts and accessories. |
