WCCSC became a Carlisle distributor in the 1950`s. At that time the president of Carlisle was Joni Warrell and the sales manager was Ernie Moller. The factory representative on the west coast was the A.Walt Runglin Co; Lou Orsie was our sales rep. When we moved to our larger facility at 221 S. San Pedro Street, we has a railroad track siding directly outside our receiving door so we received Carlisle tires & tubes (and rim strips) in rail cars (about 45,000 lbs per shipment). Howie, Leo Jr & JD (Joel Davis) unloaded, sorted and stocked many car loads of Carlisle tires.
The USA domestic tire & tube business was taken over by the Japanese rubber manufacturers and then again by the Taiwanese manufacturers, forcing the American manufacturers to stop production of bicycle tires & tubes.
Howie & Kay revisited the Carlisle factory in about 1999.
