| Marco Yokoyama was the export manager and a director of the company starting in the 1960`s. Marco`s charming wife, Sadako, was the daughter of the founder of the company. Kuwahara produced and exported bicycles to America, Canada, Australia and several other countries. Initially the bicycles were branded with the buyer`s brand (i.e. Schwinn, Apollo, Azuki, Takara, Puch, etc.). In the late 1970`s Marco approached Howie with the project of establishing & popularizing the brand name of Kuwahara. I worked closely with many individuals at the Kuwahara facilities including Deguchi-san, Takuo Kuwahara (the father of Takashi), Teichi Kuwahara, Koji Nishimura, KC Fukuda, Tachibana-san, Imafuji-san, and others to be named later with additional text and pictures. While visiting Japan, I would sometimes play tennis with Takuo`s wife, who was an excellent tennis player. Additional photos & text are pending. Koji Nishimura worked with the original Kuwahara company. He was very helpful to Howie at the time that we were marketing Kuwahara brand bicycles in the 1980's. He currently works for the new Kuwahara company which is managed by Takuo & Takashi Kuwahara. |
