The French father and son team of Pierre and Ernest Michaux are given credit by some historians for being the first to commercially produce bicycles with pedals in the year 18XX. The machine was referred to a a Velocipede (aka a Boneshaker). The image shown here of a Michaux Velocipede was copied from the Gilbert King book titled The Bicycle (a very worthwhile book for anyone studying the history of bicycles, ISBN 0-7624-1262-3, published in 2002).
