1977 June, AMERICAN BICYCLIST and MOTORCYCLIST, Vol. 98, No. 6
The American Bicyclist and Motorcyclist magazine is a consolidation of several prior bicycle publications which were acquired and/or merged through the years. Ultimately, David Meyers purchased the publication and renamed it The American Bicyclist and Motorcyclist. David`s wife, Florence and son Stu were both active in the business. Each monthly issue is full of editorial and advertisements that chronicle the bicycle industry for the period. Howie & his family worked closely with Stuart Meyers for many years. Stu sold the publication in the 1990s and it is currently being published by The League of American Bicyclists, the format is quite different from when the Meyer`s family was publishing; it is now slanted toward advocacy & touring. The dimensions are 8 1/4 x 11 1/4 inches. [AmBicyclist1977-06]

1979 December, AMERICAN BICYCLIST and MOTORCYCLIST 100th Anniversary Issue (see gallery)
AVAILABLE TO SELL, I HAVE A DUPLICATE! This special 100th Anniversary Issue (normal soft cover) contains 364 pages of wonderful illustrations, text and advertisements. There is an abundance of information about the bicycle industry. The American Bicyclist magazine is a direct descendant of at least eleven other bicycle publications starting with; American Bicycling Journal (1877), The Bicycling World (1897), and other publications of the past years.  Stuart John Meyers (`Stu`) was the editor and publisher at this time. Howie was associated with Stu and his mother, Florence Meyers, for many years (since the mid 1950`s); he was a wonderful person, good reporter, photographer, salesman and an asset to the bicycle industry. This issue contains many pictures, illustrations and information from Lorne Shields and his collection. I purchased a full page advert in this issue which includes a photo of me riding a high wheel (Ordinary) bicycle. Stu included a personal note when he mailed me my personal copy of this issue; see the picture gallery. I also have a duplicate of this issue in a hard bound limited edition; the hard cover is blue color with gold imprint. [AmBicyclist1979-12]
