This appears to be produced using two large pieces of Redwood laminated together, then sand blasted and painted with the blue and yellow colors. The English translation of the word Azuki is 'Red Bean'; the bean that is used to produce the sweet paste used in baking the small Japanese buns (sweet treats) that are often served while drinking traditional Japanese green tea. The reason we chose the name Azuki is because we wanted a brand name to fit specific qualifications; (1) easy for Americans to pronounce, (2) accepable translation into English, and (3) difficult for youngsters to mispronounce into a negative English word. We chose the chrysanthemum flower logo to accompany the Azuki name because of its attractiveness and the fact that it was the logo of the Japanese Emperor. The Japanese translation of chrysanthemum is 'Kiku'. The dimensions of this sign are 19 x 25 1/2 inches; it is 1 3/4 inches thick. Azuki bicycles were first produced by the Kuwahara factory in Osaka, then some additional models were produced by Nissan Bicycle Co (Iga-san) and later by Giant in Taiwan. [Azuki-07]
