AVAILABLE TO SELL, I HAVE A DUPLICATE OF Volumes 1 & 2. This is a 1st edition with the green spine & cover which are decorated with the silver high-wheel bicycle (the cover also has Mercury and The Angel). Published by Charles Scribner`s Sons of New York. Vol-1 has 547 pages of story with over 100 great illustrations plus several more pages of advertising, dedication and introduction. Dedicated to Colonel Albert A. Pope, of Boston Massachusetts, `whose liberal spirit of enterprise, and generous confidence in the integrity and ability of the author, made the tour possible by unstinted financial patronage, is this volume respectfully dedicated.` There is a color portrait of Thomas Stevens sitting atop his high wheel (by Kelly-1887) on the frontispiece. This is most likely the first edition; it was published in 1890. There is a chapter for ladies by Miss L.C.Davidson. Published by Frederick A. Stokes Co. of New York. 120 pages with an abundance of illustrations of the evolution of the bicycle. The outside front cover has a beautiful illustration including the author`s name in a fancy font. There is some handwriting on the inside page facing the inside front cover: Hortense Foglesong 1st Prize at Spelling Match. The dimensions are 4 3/4 x 6 7/8 inches, condition is very good.
