Bobby Encinas - BMX Racer and Nice Guy Extraordinaire |

Bobby Encinas was one of the most popular BMX racers on the planet in the 1980`s. He started racing at the beginning of the BMX craze and became the Shimano cover boy because of his BMX skills, riding style, good looks and nice guy popularity. Bobby recently (April 2012) re-connected with me and sent me this image of himself on a Shimano brochure. Bobby is still involved with bicycles; he has been employed by the WalMart Corporation for more than 17 years in their bicycle program. The 1964 photo in the picture gallery is of Peter Abt in second place behind Andre Bohren and an third place unidentified guy during an amateur race in Vaud, Switzerland. Andre said: in the early days helmets did not matter; the important thing was that your hair looked good! Abt went on to become a pro; he raced the Tour de l`Avenir and other major races.
