1898 Atalanta and Patee brand Bicycles produced by Peoria Rubber and Mfg Co of Peoria, ILL (Original, not a reprint) |
|---|
AVAILABLE TO SELL; A PROFESSIONALLY PRINTED REPRODUCTION REPRINT (it is difficult to differentiate between the original and the splendid reproduction). This is the 16 page 1898 bicycle catalogue for Atalanta and Patee brand bicycles which are produced by the Peoria Rubber & Manufacturing Company, a tire manufacturer in Peoria, IL. This is their third presentation of complete bicycles to the cycling community. Their first year of bicycle production was for the 1896 model year. The Atalanta branded bicycles are the A-line while the Patee brand bikes are the B-line. The principal differences between the two brands are: (a) the finish, (b) the decorations, and (c) the component parts selection (specifications). In addition to the illustrations of the bicycles and the listing of the detailed specifications, several key features of design and manufacturing are illustrated and explained. They produced tires in every possible weight from the enormous 30 inch tires fitted on the famous `Oriten` to the lightest track tires. The catalog mentions that the previous two seasons were particularly hard on the bicycle manufacturers of America. The condition of the original is excellent. The dimensions are: the original at 6 3/16 x 8 inches, the reproduction reprint at 6 x 7 7/8 inches. [CatAntqBike-A-840]
