Ambrosio
Ambrosio of Italy manufacturers high quality components & accessories for bicycles. I think this catalog is from the early 1980`s. We (WCCSC) imported their products in the late 1950`s for sales to retailers as spare parts and specified them on Girardengo brand racing bicycles that we imported & sold to retailers. This catalog is elegantly designed and presented but it is quite difficult to use inasmuch as each individual item is described & illustrated on separate sheets (26x15cm coated cover stock). The factory contact information (address, phone, etc.) is absent. Bill & Carol McGann kindly allowed me to scan this catalog which is in their collection. This image is of the presentation display box which holds all of the index cards and individual pages. The display box is designed with an easel back and slanted bottom so it can be independently stood up on a table or desk. See the picture gallery. [Cat-A 650 1980`s]

Leo J. Cohen Sr. of Wheel Goods Corp, Playrite Bicycle and West Coast Cycle Supply Co (WCCSC)
Howie`s father, Leo Jerome Cohen Sr. (1914~1963) started in the bicycle business in 1939 when he borrowed $5.00 from his father-in-law (my grandpa Singer) to purchase a used bicycle which he repaired, painted and sold for $10.00. He repaid grandpa Singer the 5 bucks and purchased another used bicycle with his first profit. This was done while he was a door-to-door salesman for a magazine distributor and he was doing the bike repairs in the basement of our small house in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This humble beginning evolved to; (1) a small bike shop within a few months, (2) a partnership in a very large bicycle Mpls. retail store, Wheel Goods Corp with his brother-in-law in a few years, (3) the purchase of a retail bike shop at 168 N. La Brea, Los Angeles, CA in 1947, (4) a small chain of three retail bike shops in L.A. named Playrite Bicycle Supply, and (5) the establishment of the wholesale distributorship of West Coast Cycle Supply Co., Inc. in 1958 which became a major player in the bicycle industry of the USA and Japan. Additional text and pictures pending. [Cohen, Leo Sr.]
