Giant is currently the largest bicycle manufacturer in the world. Howie has a long standing relationship with Giant`s King Liu & Tony Lo. When I began visiting Japan in the early Katakura was one of the bicycle factories that I visited several times. They produced high quality bicycles and had good knowledge about high quality production. For some period of time Katakura produced one model (the top of the line) American Eagle or Nishiki brand bicycle for my company. The model was Pro Compe. Katakura also produced Silk brand bicycles for the Japan domestic market and some were exported. One of the models was a folding bike. This image is an advert from the 1952 Japan Bicycle Guide.
