An envelope (first day cover) postmarked August 2, 1978 with the set of the four British stamps that were designed to commemorate the Centenary of two British cycling organizations formed in 1878; (1) the Cyclist Touring Club [founded as the Bicycle Touring Club] and (2) the British Cycling Federation [founded as the Bicycle Union]. This 1st day cover is addressed and was mailed to Pete Mole at the John T. Bill Co in Glendale, CA. It was sent to Pete by Jack Schultz, president of AAB Centro-American Co., Ltd, a British exporter of component parts & accessories produced in England. Notice the chainring design of the postmarks. 2011 April-14 USA Go Green Souvenir Cover 44-cent 1st Day of Issue cancelled |

This image is of five (5) covers (envelopes) with non-bicycle stamps and the decor logo. They are cancelled on April 14, 2011, the First Day Of Issue. The bicycle stamp is only available (at this time) as one of the GO GREEN stamps on a sheet of 16. The stamps have a value of 44-cents but are FOREVER Stamps which means that they can be used for postage even after the postage rates increase to a higher cost than 44-cents. It is nice to see that the world is becoming more environmentally aware and is doing things to improve and save the earth. Using the bicycle for short trips rather than a motorized vehicle is a great way to help the environment while getting some good exercise at the same time. [USA 2011GoGreen.j]
