The subjects of this lovely piece of art (this is a print) are two of my favorites; bikes and dogs (yes I am also very fond of dogs). The artist, Robert Vickery, was born in New York city in 1926 and did the original painting in 1970. The medium is Tempera on Masonite. This print was copyrighted in 1972. The dimensions of the print are 35 7/8 x 27 inches. There is a small amount of water stain on the reverse side of one end of this print. [Poster-C.056]
COURIER AND MESSENGER SERVICE FOR U.S. ARMED FORCES-Columbia Bicycle Poster
This poster, produced for Columbia Bicycles (The Westfield Mfg. Co.), was distributed to retail bicycle stores during starting in 1944. Proprietors of bike shops hung these posters on the wall as decorations, advertising and support for the American war effort. The tag line of this poster is COURIER AND MESSENGER SERVICE FOR U.S. ARMED FORCES. Complete bicycles and the component parts thereof were difficult to obtain at the time because most of the American bicycle industry factories were using the majority of their capacity producing materials for the war effort. Bicycles were under the control of the government and were rationed. Our family bike shop in Minneapolis, MN was fortunate to be able to purchase a limited quantity of bikes and/or component parts. The dimensions are 17 x 22 inches. [Poster-C.578d]
