6-Day Racing |
|---|
Wikipedia reports that the first six-day event was an individual time trial at the Agricultural Hall in Islington, London in the year 1878 when a professional named David Stanton won a bet by riding 1,000 miles in 73 hours. Stanton was riding a high-wheeled machine and averaged 13.5 mph. Later, the format was changed to allow teams (usually of two rider each), one rider racing while the other rested. The 24-hours a day regime has also been relaxed, so most six-day races involve six nights of racing, typically from 6pm to 2am, on indoor tracks (velodromes). The overall winner is the team that completes the most laps. Goggle six-day bicycle races for more information. [Six-Day Racing]

Howie first met Claudio Rosa in the late 1960`s or early 1970`s when he was the manager of the Brazilian bicycle factory, Bicicletes Caloi. Claudio was the Brazilian National Road Racing Champion during his earlier years as a bike racer. After separating from Caloi, Claudio and his son, Claudio Jr., established a Brazilian factory producing Alloy bike frames; CR Industria E Comercio Ltda. Kay and Howie visited Brazil to see the Caloi factory and spend some quality time with the Caloi and Rosa families.
