American Cyclery of San Francisco, CA
Howie`s company, WCCSC, did business with this store in the 1950`s through the 1970`s. Established by 6 Day racer Oscar Juner in 1941, it is the oldest bicycle shop in San Francisco. For over 65 years American Cyclery has passionately provided the finest quality bicycles, parts, and accessories for the demanding and selective Bay Area customer. We continuously strive to deliver individualized service, mechanical excellence, and professional fit to our customers. American Cyclery has in its long history been the forerunner of many legacies of cycling history and we are proud of the long list of bicycle industry luminaries who pay tribute to the American Cyclery Oscar established decades ago. Many components used for the early development of the original mountain bike movement were purchased from our shop in the early 80s`s. Today we continue to honor that tradition by carefully selecting bicycles and products that will outlast the endless waves of marketing hype. [AmericanCyclerySF ]

Big Ass Chard - 2004 Santa Rosa, California
The label design is of a large couple riding a tandem (with leashed dog in tow) toward the wine tasting room. BIG, FAT, and BUTTERY are the words used to describe this Chardonnay. The label design may be objectionable to some but I take it with a grain of salt; it`s good art and contains a tandem. [BigAssChard-016]

Frank Patterson`s `A Country Club Run` (3 Couples on Tandem Tricycles)
This particular piece is hand printed on a stainless steel plate and attached to a nice beveled piece of wood. This was sent to Howie in a box with several other treasures by Pete Mole, long time friend and business associate. It was sent to the John T. Bill Company by AAB Centro-American Co., Ltd. of London, England, an export agent for many British bicycle products, including but not limited to; Gem Tape, Coloral Aluminum bottles & cages, Leco baby seats, BH hubs & parts, etc. The dimensions are 8 1/2 x 6 inches. A little history; Frank Patterson is one of the best known `bicycle` sketch artist of all time. His sketches adorned the pages of England`s `Cycling` magazine, a weekly published by Temple Press, from the late 1800`s well into the 1900`s. I have four (4) different books in my `bicycle book library` that are full of hundreds of sketches by Patterson (it is reported that Patterson did over 5,000 bicycle and bicycling sketches). He was a large man who loved cycling and he had an extraordinary talent for drawing each part of the bicycle in perfect proportion. When he was too old to ride a bicycle he changed to a lightweight dérailleur geared adult tricycle and he always had his sketch pad tucked away in the saddle bag. [WH,misc-014.s]
